Hi, I'm Emma.

I'm an illustrator who loves to play with shape and colour.

I use a variety of techniques including painting, and drawing but most of all I love to collage.

Most days you can find me making a huge mess with scraps of coloured paper that I cut, rip and stick together to create playful and unique pictures that both little and big kids will think are awesome.

My inspiration comes from my everyday life experiences, small moments, observations of my kids and how they interact with each other, the world, and nature.

I started out as a little kid with glasses who would spend hours creating and making.

Here I am, proud as punch, sitting in front of some of my work displayed at a local craft fair.

I created all the time. If I wasn't drawing my favourite Disney characters or horses you would find me crafting ideas from my favourite show Art Attack, or putting on shadow puppet displays for my family. I even wrote and illustrated miniature books that were the size of a thumbnail!

As an adult I studied design at the College of Fine Arts in Sydney, Australia. After a few years in an office job designing textiles I decided to leave my home town and travel and work in Europe.

I lived in Berlin for three years then my husband and I moved to California where we stayed for 4 years.

It was there where I started first working as a freelance illustrator, shortly afterwards I had my first child so I put a hold on illustration and commited my time to motherhood.

In 2020 our little family moved back to Germany where we welcomed our second child. We currently live in Aachen.

Becoming a mother and navigating life in a new country gave me a fresh perspective.

Once I found some small moments between caregiving I started to collage in a sketchbook. My creativity was reignited and I discovered the playfulness and simplicity of sticking coloured paper together would take me back to my childhood days.

I use a very intuitive approach and purposefully adopt a naive aesthetic that is strongly inspired by childrens art, Eric Carle, outsider art, and Paul Klee, to name a few.

Through my work I aim to capture the innocence and joy of childhood, that people of all ages can enjoy.

You can see more of my work here.
